About
I am an Archaeologist. I lecture in the Faculty of Science, and I am also Visiting Researcher in the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture. My interests include the archaeology of Later Prehistoric Europe, art and visualisation, economic sociology, and archaeologies of property and land tenure. I direct several research projects including Damerham Archaeology Project, Shovel Down Archaeological Project and the cross-disciplinary research grouping 'art+archaeology'.
After several years working in contract archaeology I obtained an AHRC award to research some of the earliest large-scale organised landscapes in Europe, on Dartmoor, South-West Britain. I was awarded my doctorate from University College London in 2007. The Institute for Archaeologists has approved me as Member - the highest corporate grade for professional archaeologists in the UK.
My monograph ‘Theorising Tenure’ was published in 2008. Recent articles concern drawing on archaeological sites and my experiences of collaborating with visual artists. At present I am editing a volume that explores the interface between artistic and archaeological practice and writing a book about archaeologies of property and tenure.
