About
My research focuses on the history of activist-art practices, and art in social movements in the twenteith century, through both objects and performance, and how these can be theorised and historicised in relation to the institutional bases of art history.
I am currently focused, particularly, on Berlin Dada, Surrealism, Situationism, 1960s political happenings (Provos, Diggers, Chicago Surrealists, Black Mask) and contemporary art-activism and creative politics since the 1980s.
I have a secondary interest in the intellectual history of theories of revolution-as-festival, from Bataille and Lefebvre's attempts to conjoin Surrealism and Marxism to the Situationist-inflected second-wave anarchism of Hakim Bey and others.
I'm always keen to hear from people interested in these areas.
